It was a CCG setting originally and then was turned into an RPG. Legend of the Five Rings is basically Samurai fantasy asian mashup (some things are a bit more chinese, some are a bit more korean), and its all larger than life and "mythological" in scale rather than realistic. Does it use the D&D inspired system that a lot of Fantasy Game Unlimited used? I've been waiting for a solid review before checking it out.īut after playing Star Wars, if it uses that system, I'm going to back away slowly. The new system I think is FFG's new weird dice system, from their Star Wars games and Genisys? I think, that uses symbols and is random so so so random to make it potentially unfun for play, but I may be mistaken. Usually a version Seventh Sea's Roll and Keep system which has never been great, just functional. ![]() People love the mythology of Legend of the Five Rings, but actual play? Eh, they make the "Legend" or "Propaganda" of samurai too right to function as a society (as previously written.) They have clans that don't interact well with each other, and its hard to get functioning play because of using the "Samurai were ALL AWESOME sticking to ALL THESE SOCIAL SYSTEMS!" There are ways around it, of course, and to get functional play, at least mostly so with previous editions and their variety of mechanics.
